Lisa-Marie Robinson is an abstract expressionist artist based in the United Kingdom.

Standing before a blank canvas, an array of acrylics, oil pastels, ink, and spray paints at her fingertips, she takes a deep breath, closes her eyes, and dives into the depths of her inner world. Here, she’s not just an artist; she’s a conduit for raw emotion, a storyteller without words.

Each piece begins with a connection to something deeply personal: a whisper of a memory that lingers long after it’s passed, a vivid dream of what’s yet to come, or the visceral intensity of the present moment. It’s in this sacred space that Lisa’s emotions become the invisible hand that guides her movements, dictating the strokes, the blend of colours, and the texture that will come to define her work.

Intuition silently dictates the choice of medium that will best express the sentiment Lisa is channeling. Perhaps the bold defiance of a spray can, the delicate whisper of ink, or the timeless depth of oil pastels. Each tool, each hue, is selected not by conscious design but by an instinctive pull that she’s learned to trust implicitly. As the layers build, so does the narrative of the piece, each one a unique fingerprint of Lisa’s psyche at the moment of creation. The result is a visual symphony of her innermost experiences, a tangible representation of emotion that invites the viewer to not just see, but to feel alongside her. This is Lisa’s art: an unspoken dialogue between her soul and the world.

“There is never a plan when I start painting. Whatever happens in the moment happens.”

a few words…

Whilst living in London, I found solace in art, using it as a calming retreat to navigate the challenges of my mental well-being and the pressures of a fast-paced life and demanding career. The act of painting became my sanctuary, a place where I could disconnect from the onslaught of technology, distressing news, and the constant interruptions of daily life.

Engaging in creative activities such as storytelling, journaling, design, or painting has provided me with a peaceful space to rekindle the parts of my identity that had dimmed as I tried to fit into societal norms that never truly aligned with my essence, despite my active participation in them.

In August 2022, the loss of my dear friend, Ian Ramshaw, brought everything to a standstill and forced me to deeply reevaluate my existence, uncovering a profound sense of dissatisfaction.

Ian was an exceptional scenic artist whose creations adorned West End theatre stages in shows like Harry Potter and embellished Alexander McQueen fashion events. His last great work, an impressive elephant featured in the Moulin Rouge. His artistic legacy and our mutual love for art remain a source of motivation in my own artistic endeavours.

Art has become a therapeutic tool for me, quieting the inner chaos and enabling me to work through and let go of intense emotions.
